Guilty Pleasure TV

Everyone has some form of guilty pleasure TV.

Mine used to be The Hills. I won't even try to deny the fact that I loved Lauren Conrad and secretly envied her, having been the journalism major I would have killed to intern at Teen Vogue.

Since then I really haven't had that guilty pleasure..... the show you sit glued in front of the TV to making sure you don't miss a minute of the action despite the fact your IQ may be dropping by the minute.

Now let me tell you a bit about Marine. He's predictable. The TV will always be on Discovery Chanel, History Channel or on the occasional occurance he will flip over to A&E to watch Undercover Boss.

So imagine my surprise a few Thursdays ago.... I stand in the bathroom, brushing my teeth getting ready for bed. The door is open and Marine comes bouncing out of the bedroom, down the hall, heading toward the living room practically skipping while singing "It's a Jersey Shore Party."

I watch in wonderment as he turns the corner. Was that my husband?

I rinse my mouth and head down the hall to peak my head around the corner.

Marine sits smack dab in the middle of the couch. Eyes glued to the TV.

"Whatcha watching?" I ask.

"It's a Jersey Shore Party!!" He practically sings again.

Oh my the Marine Corps. barracks has now come into my home.

While in the Marine's Marine and his buddies would all gather in the barracks and watch Jersey Shore.

Marine texts Roommate who is on the west coast to see if it's on there.

It is and apparently he is glued to the TV also.

As I watch this I think of Vixen and myself texting back and forth during The Hills.

Perhaps my big tuff Marine is a girl.......

I sit down beside him on the couch wondering what all the fuss was about.

I had never watched the show...... and perhaps afterward I understood why. Even though I have since found myself watching it with Marine every week.

Maybe men and women really aren't so different.

Dating..... In The Dark?

"When it comes to men… how do we end up in the dark?"

~ Carrie's Diary ~

I have listened to Date Girl and Phoebe talk about the new ABC show Dating in the Dark. So curiosity got the better of me (I mean dating in the dark??) so with nothing better to do I pulled up ABC online and proceeded to watch the first episode.

I admit I laughed and even though "what the hell" did cross my mind a time or two overall it was an interesting show. I mean you get to know someone completely in the dark. You learn their likes, their dislikes, and general information about them. Then at the end of the show the lights come on and you see the other person. From their you can decided if you would wish to date them after the show.

Interesting idea.

But what if you have a great connection and then you see the person and their is just ZERO attraction. What do you do? If you admit that it makes you appear shallow and superficial.
Could you walk away? Or if you had a great connection with someone would you go out with them even if you weren't attracted to them physically? Something to think about......

True Blood

Friday night after diner and drinks with Giggles I headed to Vixen's. One of the V-Card carrying members was coming up for the weekend but he was not expected to arrive till later so Vixen had rented the first disc of True Blood for us to watch. I have read several books in the series but had yet to see the HBO version. Lately I have been hearing how good it is so Vixen and I decided to give it a whirl.

When I arrived at the house, Vixen's diner in hand, she greets me at the door with a fake smile in place. I know something is up, a surprise of some sort that she is not happy about. V-Card has arrived earlier than expected. Oh well. I'm not a third wheel this is my soon to be future residence to. I greet him and take a seat on the love seat. Maybe a better word would be sprawl. The air conditioner has decided to go on strike so all the widows are open and the fans whirling at full blast, still not much of a match for the humid southern heat.

Vixen dives into her Philly cheese steak, I sip my sweet tea, and V-Card presses play. I had been warned there were some.... interesting scenes in the show, I mean this was an HBO series after all. As the show proceeded Vixen and I bit our tongues not saying what we were both thinking.

Fastforward to Tuesday night. After work I feed horses, picked up diner and headed to Vixen's for True Blood disc 2. Half way thru the 3rd episode I had to hit pause.

"Ok Friday night there were so many comments I wanted to make but couldn't in front of V-Card," I said.

"I know me to!!" Vixen exclaims, "All I could think was how long its been."

We laugh, "Well I was wondering if he was thinking 'do people really do it like that?'"

She laughs harder, "I know I couldn't even look at him! There is no telling what he was thinking!"

I mean if you've seen the show you know where we are coming from.

TAG..... I'm It

I've been tagged! I've received the Honest Scrap Award

[ Yea! My First Blog Award ] It was bestowed so kindly upon me by Date Girl (check her out she is great!). I am using the word Kindly loosely here in that since she was going down she felt the need to drag me down with her. Just kidding. But I will not go down alone either {see tags below}!!

I now have to tell you 10 things about me.... Which lets face it you know a good bit about me already...... Hmmmm where to start......

  1. I wear cowboy boots and carry a Coach purse (at the same time). I get dirty but yet like to dress up every once in awhile to. Besides who says Ariets and Coach can't go together? Some fashionista is rolling over in the grave right about now...

  2. I'm not really in to labels and if not for Vivi and Vixen I probably wouldn't even know what Coach was. But Vixen tries to keep me up to date! Pretty much any designer label I have has been a gift [or recommended purchase ] from Vixen. Purse pictured prime example.

  3. I am a closet Hills fan. Its one of those pointless shows that I don't really know why I watch it yet every Monday I tune in to watch the drama unfold. Gotta love LC though, I have to say she always handles the situations with class.
  4. Chick-Fil-A is my favorite fast food restaurant. Period end of story.
  5. Lately I fill like my life is going backward rather than forward. I just got to figure how to get it back on the right track. If I were in a stable relationship and financially ok I would be ready to have kids. I guess that is where I thought I would be at this point in my life instead of starting over.
  6. I have refused to join Twitter because I already fill that with Facebook, Myspace and my Blackberry I am connected enough. Why add to it? Yet I have started to weaken lately and kinda want to join just to see what all the craze is about.
  7. When I get really mad my chest and neck break out in red blotches. Sometimes I do this when I am really nervous to and I hate that this is something I can't control.
  8. I am manipulative. Sometimes I manipulate people without even realize I'm doing it.... I remember as a kid my Dad telling me I easily influenced people and their decisions and that I needed to be careful. He made it sound like I had this super power and that I needed to use it for good instead of evil. I remember thinking at the time that he was crazy. The older I get though I wish he were here for me to tell him that maybe he was right.
  9. I honestly have more fun going to horse shows than going out on the weekends. Is that sad?
  10. I hope to one day write a book. A mystery-chick-lit type book. I have started several but then I seem to lose interest or run out of time. It seems I always have A and C just missing the B part for all to add up [ A + B = C ]. But I have faith that one day I will get it right.

So now in passing the torch I would like to tag: Vivi, Phoebe, Ana from far away!, Unwritten, Nicole, and The Working Girls, and Karie.

AND PS...... I forgot a random thing! I love Jennifer Love Hewitt's music! Yeah bet you didn't even know she sang :) lol

[ Insert Title Here ]

Well today I would like to think I have been rather productive. I went to work (no I normally don't work on Sunday's but I needed the extra hours), did a little window shopping online in preparation for Christmas, updated my Who's Who website for the blog (check it out!), posted on my other Blog I do with Vivi (which I incorporated that post in with this post), and have went thru a gazillion pictures for a project I am working on with the hopes of cheering Vixen up. Vixen has had a rather rough week and I want to do something that will make her smile. In going thru dozens upon dozens of old pictures, I realized maybe (I did say maybe) my friends are right. Maybe I am a little to camera happy. Meaning that I take pictures of just about everything. Which can make for a fun trip down memory lane. And in the middle of doing all this I caught up on Samantha Who thanks to ABC online.

I love the holiday season; the sparkling lights, decorated trees, and just the overall feeling in the air. I remember as a kid I used to always have a list of things I wanted for Christmas. As I get older I find that I want less and less and instead enjoy giving gifts more than receiving them. Sigh guess that's a sign of growing up. I love picking out gifts for my friends especially. It's always exciting to watch my friends open them all the while knowing I got them something they are going to love.

Winter has set in. The shirts and sandals have been packed away, my closet now overflowing with sweaters and warm winter jackets. Despite my low cash flow I am in dire need of three things, ok maybe need is a strong word. They are really more wants I guess than needs.

1. It is time for a new purse. Purse's are my thing I guess ~ some women buy shoes, I buy purses. I am going thru with drawls not being able to even recall when I bought my last purse. So it's safe to say it has probably been at least six months ago.

2. Brown heals. Why do I not already have a pair? Maybe because I don't wear heals that much (though I seem to have a gazillion black pairs). But I have several cute outfits that could really use a cute pair of brown heals to spice it up!

3. A black/gray jacket. I have several brown jackets, in different color variations and styles but not a jacket to go with anything black.

I'm starting to see a trend.... do I have any complete outfits?

And I know I said three things and those are my three things. For good measure though I would like to toss in a quick forth which would definitely be a want and not a need. My other week spot is camera's. I love to click away! I always carry a small digital camera in my purse, you know just in case. Well my poor Olympus has lived a long, hard life. I'm afraid after an unfortunate evening of being left outside (in it's case) on the porch railing, where it was knocked off where it sat till the next morning where I found it nestled in the wet dew grass. Yeah it's just really not been the same since. Due to this tragic evening I'm sure the camera gods do not see me as deserving of this Nikon Coolpix S60 but if I had the money it would definitely be on my shopping list! Thanks to Ashton's captivating commercials the Nikon Coolpix S60 has made itself number four on my want list! With it's smooth touchscreen and different color choices it just screams that it really wants to come home with me. But alas my empty wallet knows there are other things my hard earned money needs to go toward. In the meantime however I will drool over it and try to put back some money when I can with hopes of one day purchasing one.

This and That

This month has been somewhat difficult and perhaps not the best month to chose to blog everyday. And for those of you who are still with me, Thank You!! I mean thus far you have got to hear every mundane thing that has been going on. Not much excitement. Not much flare. I tell ya I think I’m part bear and go into hibernation once it gets cold outside!

I think I mentioned earlier in the month that my boss’s father had been diagnosed with cancer. Well he past away this week and today was the funeral. Not only was he my boss's father but he was also a friend's grandfather. He passed away of cancer and even though I hardly knew him, I felt very overwhelmed today. Emotions and feelings that I have kept locked up for the past two years flooded to the surface today as I recalled a similar day two years ago when I attended the funeral of another person who had lost the battle to cancer. This person was no acquaintance. It was my own father. That day of course had a huge impact on my life, and still does. I sometimes wonder the other path I would have taken had he been able to beat the cancer. And I can say with some certainty that my life would be different, all the way from my career to my geographical location...... Anyway the funeral today was lovely.

This is just always a hard time of year. The holiday's just aren't the same. I guess you can tell I was/am a daddy's girl?

Ok I have to switch to another topic, (I don't handle emotions to well sometimes especially this topic) TV. Ok deep breath. I must admit I am a Hills fan and I have watched Lauren Conrad since the days of Laguana beach. The show is getting a little to dramish but it's like watching a train wreck. You know its coming but you can't help but watch. I was appalled that on this weeks episode Audrina could even think Lauren would hook up with Justin. I mean I'm sorry but Audrina you are way to pretty for this guy and even though you may have on you loser glasses on Lauren does not. The way Audrina handled the situation kinda showed the shallowness of their friendship. I mean rumors always spread. If someone is your friend you know they would not do something like that to you. I mean if I heard a rumor like that about someone I was dating and say Vivi, Vixen, or Giggles (or well any of my close circle) I would know without a doubt it wasn't true. I think this showed how insecure Audrina is with herself and her relationship with not only Lauren but Justin as well. I mean I may not be one to give advice here but come on. Common sense ~ look at the guys Lauren goes for...... now look at Justin........ Yeah so don't see that happening! That is my dish opinion of the week anyway :)
